"The Department of Computer and Control Engineering (DAUIN) pursues research and teaching activities focusing on the three main scientific topics: Automation, Computer Engineering and Operation Research.

The research at DAUIN has a very concrete impact on both social and industrial systems both at the regional, national and international level, as evidenced by the large number of research projects founded by leading public and private companies.

DAUIN consists of more than 60 lecturers and researchers, more than 100 PhD Students and research collaborators, and around 20 people compose the the technical and administrative staff. Each year it manages around 250 teaching modules attended by 5000 students.

As regards the Control Engineering area, research at DAUIN covers the development of methodologies, algorithms, and software for the modeling, simulation, control and automation of complex systems and industrial infrastructures, as well as their exploitation in various application contexts.

As regards Computer Engineering, DAUIN pursues the study, design and experimentation of both the hardware and software aspects of information processing components, devices and systems, as well as their integration in complex systems and their exploitation in various application domains. More specifically, in the context of hardware systems, the focus is on innovative architectures for information processing and on the development of methodologies and frameworks for the automatic design of electronic systems, including mobile devices.

Concerning software aspects, the research is focused on computer networks and security issues, software engineering and databases.
Finally, in the Operations Research field, DAUIN is engaged in the development of methodologies and instruments for the analysis and complex optimization and decision problems in the field of computer science, communication and automation. More specifically, applications domains are network design, production and services planning and logistics."
